This week, I wanted to highlight a case study of one of my patients who has consulted me as a prominent Bristol osteopath to relieve her migraines, and manage them with a monthly visit.
I certainly wouldn’t claim to be able to cure migraines or headaches using osteopathy – but the monthly work I do with this patient has had a significant and positive long term impact.
I interviewed this lady, so she could let her own experiences speak for themselves, and also to offer potential help for other migraine sufferers.
How long have you been working with Alex Prince Osteopathy?
“Alex has been treating me since I was 49, mainly through monthly treatment sessions with follow-up advice on lifestyle and specific exercises to carry out at home in-between our sessions.”
What was the main issue that made you decide to try osteopathic treatment?
“I’d been suffering from migraines every 28-30 days, and was convinced it was just hormone-related. Rather than go down a route of taking painkillers and medication, Alex suggested that we try specific osteopathic treatments”
Were there any other contributing factors to your migraines?
“I’m tall, so was somewhat hunched over in my general posture. I work as a Personal Trainer and have a background in cardiac nursing. My migraines seemed to be both postural and hormonally driven. I was keen to explore natural treatment options that weren’t centred around pharmaceutical solutions.”
What osteopathic work do you do with Alex, and with what results?
“I’ll usually have a monthly treatment session, which is very patient-focused and centres on specific areas of the body where I experience pain. The symptoms usually start in the top of my shoulder, and travel up the neck to my head and eyes. It can be accompanied with nausea, and rest or sleep have no positive impact on it.
“Alex loosens up my mid-spine. He gently manipulates the spine and works up my back and into the neck. Osteopathy isn’t about just ‘back cracking’ and Alex’s osteopathic treatment makes the tension flow away. It really works.”
What other help do you get from Alex’s osteopathic clinic in Henleaze?
“The work I do with Alex provides a preventative care, so I don’t have to go through the high levels of pain associated with the migraines. He works on all the areas that directly relate to my particular issue. His focused treatment helps so much, and he’s also given me specific exercises to do at home.”
Are you tied into a regular commitment and ongoing osteopathic costs?
“There’s no weekly commitment or payment, and Alex is available as and when I need him. His monthly osteopathic treatment has been amazing at managing the migraines, often catching them before symptoms develop. It’s not a miracle cure, but this is a fantastic way of managing my migraines instead of using painkillers.”
This lady continues to be a patient after more than two years, and her migraines are no longer a significant issue in her life, thanks to a simple, gentle session of osteopathy in Bristol each month with me.
