Case Study - Bristol Osteopath successfully treats knee injury

One of the most rewarding parts of my work as a Bristol osteopath is getting to successfully treat knee injury, joint pain, back pain, and neck pain for patients.

A patient I now see regularly, initially recovered well with treatment at my Henleaze osteopathy clinic for her knee injury. She offered to be a case study on her experiences to date.

The question and answer format below for this 45-year-old active lady was on her kind suggestion, and she's answered each question directly with her full consent.

1.     How did you come across Alex Prince Osteopathy?

"Alex was recommended to me by a triathlon team mate of mine that I train and race with. I have been a competitive triathlete for six years, and before that I played netball for a local team. I also run half and full marathons."

2. What sort of join pain were you experiencing?

"I had pain on the inside of my right knee and slight swelling. It had been building up for several weeks after training for a long distance event."

3. When did you first get treatment from Alex?

"I first consulted Alex about 3-4 weeks after my knee started hurting. This was back in November 2019."

4. What consultation process and treatment did you receive?

"Alex initially asked me lots of detailed questions about my knee problem and how it started. He also asked me about my lifestyle, sporting activities and other previous injuries  I had suffered with as well as my previous medical history.

He then did a thorough examination of not just my knee but my whole leg, pelvis and back.

As I understand it, the osteopathic approach is to look at the body as a whole and work out which parts might be involved with my injury. Alex explained that sometimes the problem can be caused by issues elsewhere in my body.

Once he had diagnosed my problem, he explained it to me and with my consent then started a treatment plan."

5. Are you an ongoing patient for your knee joint pain?

"Alex successfully helped me sort out my knee problem and also treated my back which was part of the problem.

He also explained  that prevention is better than cure and because I still train hard I visit Alex every other month for maintenance osteopathic treatments."

6. Did Alex give you any hints and tips to use day-to-day?

"Alex gave me exercises for strengthening my back and knee. These exercises are part of the preventative process."

7. Have you tried other Bristol osteopaths before Alex?

"No, I had visited a physio before but never an osteopath. I found the approach a bit different but I liked the way Alex looked at and treated the whole body."

8. What would you say to anybody suffering from joint pain?

"Don’t suffer with joint pain and don’t let it stop you doing what you want to do. Get it assessed and treated then you can carry on.

I highly recommend Alex Prince. He really helped me and clearly explained my problem and how to tackle it."

9. What is your favourite part of the service from Alex?

"He gave me a clear pathway and plan to get back to sport and then to stay healthy, now that I can compete pain free again."

10. Is there anything else you’d like to add?

"I've been seeing Alex now for over 18 months and I would trust his judgement, treatment and advice. Through the last tricky year with Covid-19, Alex has continued to be available for appointments and provided a really professional service."
