This week, I decided to highlight a case study how Alex Prince Osteopathy as a leading Bristol Osteopath successfully treats elbow and RSI injury.
The patient is a 46-year-old female with pain in her right elbow. She works at a desk and is also a keen golfer in her spare time.
When did the elbow pain start?
"About a month ago for no real apparent reason. I had been very busy with desk work."
How did it start?
"After a run of several days home working from my dining table. Golf, however, had been fine a few days before this."
Why did you book treatment with Alex Prince Osteopathy?
"I have seen Alex previously for back problems to do with posture and working from a desk."
What did Alex do?
"Alex asked me lots of questions and then did a thorough examination. Initially looking at my back, neck and overall posture. He then looked at my shoulder, elbow and wrist."
"He also took me through various shoulder and elbow movements as part of his diagnostic process as a Bristol Osteopath."
What was Alex’s diagnosis?
"As an experienced Bristol Osteopath, he told me that the tendons in my forearm were very tight, inflamed (called a tendinopathy) and painful at the point where they attach at the elbow."
"He said it was a ‘tennis elbow’ which amused us as my sport is actually golf!"
"Alex explained that golf was not the cause, although it might be an irritating factor. The actual cause was tension being created due to poor posture and excessive tension and restriction in my upper back, neck and shoulder."
"Alex said that the prolonged time sitting in a poor position using my laptop at the dining table had created adverse tension in my back neck which creates tension into my arm. This had been made worse by clicking repeated on the track pad of the laptop with my right hand (explains why it was just the right side affected) which created a repetitive strain injury or RSI."
"Alex also felt that the number of hours I had been working also contributed to the tension and restriction in my back and neck."
How did Alex treat the problem?
"Alex treated my whole arm loosening up the wrists, elbow joints and released off the tight muscles in my forearm."
"He also paid a lot of attention to freeing up my shoulder, upper back and neck. I hadn’t realized quite how tight my shoulders and neck were."
Did Alex give you any advice?
"Yes. Alex gave me specific exercises to help keep my arm and shoulder looser. He also gave me some back exercises to help stretch my back out.
"He gave me lots of postural advice for sitting at my desk and how to improve my set-up with my laptop. Alex is such a knowledgeable Bristol Osteopath."
"He also suggested I that took micro breaks, so that I get up and move regularly. This I now find really helpful in preventing getting so tense."
How many times did Alex treat your elbow RSI injury?
"I saw him four times for this problem, and now I return every so often as a preventative measure. I find this really helps and I feel so much better after a treatment."
