Not many patients come into my Henleaze clinic with this query, but it is worth asking can Bristol Osteopaths treat surfing injuries?
As an experienced osteopath in Bristol, I have treated many different types of injuries in the past.
I had a surfer (or perhaps rather a patient who surfs) last week and we had this fun conversation about surfing and Osteopathy in Bristol.
There’s always been a big surfing community in Bristol.
I'm a Bristol Osteopath who surfs, albeit occasionally, but when I go I love it.
At my Bristol clinic, I have treated many surfers who visit my Osteopathic practice in Henleaze.
Some have a specific surfing injury but many others want help, they need to be out of pain so they can go and get their next surfing adventure underway.
The great thing about surfing is that it is so healthy for the mind and body, and like osteopathy, it feels like it really is a holistic therapy in its own right.
At any level, surfing is a whole-body workout. It’s great for core stability and balance; the exact things I recommend to my osteopathy patients daily.
But there’s also that buzz of being in the water. It gets people out of their offices and back to nature. You forget all your stresses and strains. It really is a whole-body workout for mind and body.
I can’t write a blog about surfing and osteopathy in Bristol without mentioning my dear friend Nick Hounsfield, (ex) osteopath and Founder of The Wave.
A wonderful and inspiring buddy who introduced me to surfing. He has driven me down to North Devon many times to enjoy surfing there.
Nick has since brought waves and surfing to Bristol at The Wave. Nick, thank you for that!
