Is there a specialist osteopath in Bristol for the over-50s?

I'm often asked if there is a specialist osteopath in Bristol for over-50s.

My first reply is that osteopathy is a holistic therapy and so I can provide care for patients of all ages at my Bristol osteopathy clinic.
At my Henleaze clinic in BS6, I see patients of all ages. I treat issues irrespective of age.
The fact of life is that as we age the body takes and bit longer to recover, to heal, and with time we become less adaptable and lose flexibility.
Our bodies still recover and heal, but as patients, we have to show patience.
As an experienced osteopath in Bristol, I see many people over the age of 50 and they often take a little longer to get better.

What can people over 50 do to reduce the risk of injuries?

There are a few basic but effective self-help things that people over 50 in Bristol can do to help them reduce the risk of injuries happening in their daily lives, including:
Maintain a good, balanced diet

Hydrate consistently every day

Stretch daily to maintain movement

Undertake core stability exercise  (yoga or pilates)

At my BS6 Bristol osteopathy clinic, I am a great believer in ‘prevention is better than cure’ and so provide many patients with regular maintenance osteopathic treatments.

These help to catch issues before they become a real problem.

Many patients would rather come in for prevention work than suffer the pain, and they usually report feeling great benefit from doing so.

How can a Bristol osteopath help an older patient?

I always provide a clear diagnosis so that treatment can be directed not just to the injured area but to other areas that might be causative or involved.

I provide advice on exercises to aid rehab, support treatment and help speed the repair process, as well as prevent any recurrence of the injury.

Patience! The body will heal and get better but it won’t be as quick as when we were 30.

Our body physiology is slower over the age of 50 and so is the repair process. The hardest thing is sometimes modifying expectations.

I recently did a YouTube interview with the ‘Geordie Grandma’ about osteopathy, posture and health in general for people over 50. Please visit here to find out more.
